"Grito mundial" was exactly what you heard the moment Daddy Yankee entered the building at NYC club, Quo. The Puerto Rican born reggaeton artist showed this En La Escena reporter just how loyal of a fan base he had. The entire club broke out in pandemonium the moment they knew that Daddy Yankee had arrived. New York City DJ, Alex Sensation of La Mega 97.9, spun Daddy's newest hip shaking ritmo, grito mundial. Lucky for me, I was able to capture a few moments of the Daddy's time to ask him about his latest project and the influences that brought it to life. En La Escena was present at the 100th year Anniversary for Johnnie Walker Black Label.
The special night was hosted by Carlos Ponce - Singer, songwriter, producer, actor and host. Who recently starred in the Hollywood hit-film Couples Retreat.
I had the opportunity to sit down & interview Carlos Ponce. An interview that shows a very accessible, fun & charming Carlos and you will be able to see it very soon here on En La Escena!
To say that the night was a success in an understatement!
Johnnie Walker Black Label sure knows how to throw a party! No wonder they are The world's favorite brand of whiskies. They celebrated this special milestone with a Latin flair & called it "Fiesta del Siglo" ( Party of the Century) The house was full & everyone was enjoying their drinks & hors d'ourves. Also throughout the night I heard multiple times announcements asking people to drink responsibly.
The opening of the show was amazing! I call it the "Keep Walking" Intro. Behind a white screen They cleverly showcased the human evolution with silhouettes. Showcasing the gradual evolution until man achieved to stand upright. Next they showed the signature silhouette of Johnnie Walker's Striding Man with a hat & cane. As the screen fell there was the Host of the night Carlos Ponce dressed as Johnnie Walker. Simply genius! Then the guests enjoyed the unforgettable dances the rest of the night.
I have to say that is was great to be at the Fiesta del Siglo. For me it shows the respect that Johnnie Walker has for our Latino Community. They could'nt have had a better host then Carlos Ponce, since he is very loved & respected by the Latino Community.

I was invited by my producer Toni Austin to cover the movie premiere of “The Ministers”. I didn't know what to expect but when I got to the Lincoln Center Theater the place was crawling with celebrities such as John Leguizamo, Franc Reyes, Florencia Lozano, Wanda De Jesus, Manny Perez, Harvey Keitel and many more. It was great to see everyone smiling and so proud of their work. It's rare to see a predominantly Latino movie cast, so you know En La Escena had to capture the moment. They were all so happy to speak to us and gave great feedback on their involvement with the film.
Then came the moment... curtains! We all rushed and were anxious to get seats to watch this movie everyone was so excited to see. Luckily, I ran into a good friend by the name of Edwin Pagan (a Latino horror film maker) and we snagged some seats (2 seats for 3 people and guess who had to sit in the middle... yea, yours truly.) Seats were slim pickins' because this place was packed, so you know my pain (lol). I support the director's vision and am very proud of his accomplishment. The plot was twisted but wasn't confusing. John Leguizamo, played twin brothers and I thought he did a great job. Captain Diaz (Wanda De Jesus) was one of my favorite characters as well as the gangster Carlos Rojas (Luis Antonio Ramos). There's a little bit of everything in the flick: action, romance, betrayal, scandal, comedy, drama and of course... religion. Definitely check it out, it's worth it and give me your opinions. Tommy Hilfiger was one of my favorite collection. It was a refreshing collection not to mention the models were the hottest lol...! Male and female models struck the runway in nautical and californian looks. Every single item in his collection is wearable and functional both for men and women. It's fashionable yet very pretty and he offered an array of very playful colors and great color combo such as navy/pink,navy/white etc. This time, he took a notch sexier!....Love the mini dresses and evening gowns. Bravo Tommy! Among the celebrities were none other then Taylor Swift sitting on the front row wearing a gorgeous red dress.

Michael Kors showed a collection inspired by architectural shapes, very geometrical, asymetrical, with a lot of slits, zigzagging, suits and sleeveless dresses. The collection had a futuristic feel with a lot of metallic and textured prints. His dresses were simple yet edgy and colors remained delectably simple: blue, aqua, lilac, ivory, white, black and silver. A great collection, something expected from Michael.

I thought I was going to be nervous walking into the largest and oldest spanish language radio station in New York City. But truth be told, JI Starr, radio announcer and DJ of La Mega 97.9, was so incredibly gracious to me that the interview between us just flowed like a regular conversation between two friends. JI Starr opened up to me about his life and career, remembering the challenges and successes of his many years in the media industry. He talks specifically to how he overcame his challenge to rise to the top despite the fact that spanish was his second language. He also shared some special secrets with me that he personally uses to keep his vocal performance in tip top shape!
Overall, I found my time with JI to be incredibly insightful, entertaining, and just down right fun! JI's huge heart shines through his eyes and he comes across as someone who is not only passionate about what he does, but passionate about his "cultura". I think this man would do great on TV! Last night I was "En La Escena" with Frankie Negron at the Canal Room in NYC. Frankie was debuting his latest album which was --get this--a ROCK album! No one was more surprised than me. I had the pleasure of interviewing Frankie one on one before he took the stage to perform. He confided in me that it took him two years to invent his english sound. He spoke of having a strong salsa fan base but was hoping that his fans would embrace this side of him that he had been yearning to express. This Puerto Rican New Jersey native did not disappoint with a standing room only performance that had everyone bopping their heads in unison. His melodic lyrics and sultry vocals gave the intimate audience a rare view of himself. He seemed almost liberated which is in harmony with the title of his album, Independence Day. Lucky for me, I got to go home with a copy of his new CD and a memory to last me for years to come. =o) Hasta la proxima mi gente! This is Leticia Reyes, special reporter for En La Escena.

On Sunday September 13th, the tent at Bryant Park was completely full attracting a front row as powerful as she is: André Leon Talley, Tina Brown, Fran Lebowitz, Graydon Carter, Terry Richardson and Carine Roitfeld. Everyone was anticipating to see the DVF's spring/summer 2010. Best known for her animal printed jersey dresses, Diane presented a collection with several animal printed dress offset by many solid dresses and separates as well as swimsuits accessorized colorfully. Making wearable and functional garments, Diane has succeeded one again in making functional and very pretty dresses. Colors were once again vibrant, wild, lots of glitz as well as layers. Silhouettes are feminine and hourglass with focus mainly on the waistline. However, I came to wonder if the name did not become bigger then the product... For some reason, I expected a little more from her and left the tent still hungry. Have we become greedy of too much? After all, she's human...LOL

Well known and loved in Greece, fashion designer Vassilios Kostetsos has been a leader in the fashion industry for the past 15 years. He is known for his divine designs. For the 1st time, Vassilios Kostetso showed during New York Fashion week and he has proven that his talent has no boundaries.
In the heart of NYC, on September 13th 2009 at Bryant Park in the Salon, Vassilios Kostetsos presented his much anticipated Spring/Summer 2010 collection themed PHIDIAS, an ancient Greek Sculptor.
The men's and woman's collection was simply beautiful, fresh and very distinct. The women's designs were very much haute couture and perfectly tailored to say the least meanwhile the men's designs were outstandingly sharp yet wearable.
The entire collection was mainly composed of fitted bodices, reminiscing of the proportions of the ancient Greek Statues. The perfect silk forms were very often ornated with sequins, embroideries, semi-precious stones while the strong puffy cap sleeves were a characteristic of the lines of the Greek Kore Statues.
Models strutted down the runway with a clean polishes look. The women had their hair pulled back in a bun with a very natural yet contoured makeup meanwhile the men had their hair parted on the side to accentuate the European feel.
The shapes varied from a short and fitted strapless bodice, to a full-length version flaring out at the hip level, some great structure short jackets with the intense shoulders lines, crispy jackets for men often paired with a scarf and straight-legged pants. The women's pieces were perfect red carpet pieces as they exuded glamor, elegance and freshness. The beauty of the entire line resided in the simplicity of the shapes with attention to details, the combination of fabrics, the appliques and cutouts and the juxtaposition of solid next to or topped with sheer. Though the men's pieces presented nothing new in terms of shapes, the freshness came from the alluring cuts of the jackets and the fresh colors. The whole collection featured a strict color palette consisting of timeless colors such as nude, white, tan, black with some accents of Salmon...colors that played with the theme of the brightness of the sun.
Vassilios has once again proven that his craft can bring men's and women's to their utmost elegance with clean lines, lavish details and rich fabrics. To some, the line was restricted and perhaps very inclined towards the young and thin bodies but to most, the collection was cohesive, fresh and simply dazzling!
